How to get creative with your Wedding Anniversary during Lockdown.

When 2020 came about, we entered the year with such positivity and for the first time in a long time we began to set monthly goals for ourselves as a family and as individuals as to what we wanted to achieve.  One of those goals was to potentially have a gallery showing of some of our artwork and celebrate it for our 12 year wedding anniversary.

As a couple with two young children, we are fortunate that we have Grandparents nearby to help with the kids should we want to go for a date night.  However 2020 has not been the year that we all thought it would be,

With lockdown in full swing and our anniversary approaching we started to wonder – What was the point? So at the end of April and 5 weeks into lockdown, we had to be creative with our anniversary date night.

 What we did:

  • Getting ready - Make sure you both make the effort to get ready as if you were going out on a date. Put your make up on, put your aftershave on, do all those little things you do when going out. Honestly, all these things make you feel so much better about yourself and while you are getting ready it makes you a feel a bit giddy because lets face it we all haven’t been out in a while. You’re also making each other a priority which can be hard to do when kids are constantly around.

  • Food - Order a takeaway or make a romantic meal together. We decided to order a takeaway to make it easier for us.

  • Drinks - Make some cocktails or why not make a special anniversary drink that you will be able talk about in years to come that you both like. Take a look here for some cocktail inspiration .

  • Create the mood - Decorate an outdoor space if it is a nice evening. Gets lots of candles and lanterns that you can put outside. Get lots of plants or use your nice dinner set. Just make the effort to go that extra mile for each other and make each other feel special.

  • Music - There is nothing more romantic than having a playlist that evokes memories. So perhaps you can play your wedding song, songs from your time together or simply just music that you both enjoy.

  • Build the romance - Inspired by @lustliving why not create an outdoor movie theatre. We didn’t have a projector screen so we just used our laptop and rented our favourite movie A Good Year. We got lots of blankets (it was actually really cold, but with all the candles and things it just made it more fun). We added after dinner drinks and sat under the stars chatting, listening to music but most importantly being together.

Whatever you choose to do. This is an uncertain time and with lockdown, still not easing within social spaces, try and make the effort to make an occasion special for you both.

Euan and I are still talking about our Lockdown anniversary. It almost means more because you have had to make more of an effort with each other.

What Lockdown has taught me is that before it all happened we were all moving at a pace where we couldn’t actually take things in. Booking a restaurant was probably the amount of effort we would of went to, but doing this made a lot more special, and we didn’t have to spend that much money either.

Let me know how you get on and what you get up to.
