Eclectic Collage, What is it, What does it mean and Why start it now?
Eclectic Collage
A fusion of fragmented elements. A design Frankenstien of Interiors, Style and Inspiration.
I have been thinking about putting together a blog for as long as I can remember. Probably so long ago that perhaps if I done it then it may of grown into something, but I had the fear factor. By no means I am saying that I dont have the fear now - in fact quite the opposite but since having my 2nd child last year and developing our house, at the age of 35 I really thought I needed to tell myself to get a fucking grip!
A couple of years ago I decided to try a course, and I had been following Sarah Akwisombe for some time and I decided to try her course with the No Bull Business School. It was the No Bull Blog School back when I did it and it was a great eye opener into the world of blogging and something that I found really quite interesting. Although I was never really good at English, I found myself being really interested in writing aswell as interiors!
Why the name Eclectic Collage?
Well, for years I had been trying to think of a name for my virtual space and nothing was clicking with me, I would look in the dictionary, google ideas and still nothing was coming to me. I had “Archive” for a while., but Eclectic Collage doesn’t just represent me but my husband aswell.
We have a dream of working together one day… and when I came up with this name Euan really got on board with it. When I hear the words Eclectic Collage, the first thing that pops into my mind is something visually creative that draws from a broad range of ideas and influences. After all, a collage is a mix of various forms, producing an altogether new design from its many, varied pieces. Think of this blog as a design Frankenstein— only with much prettier parts – consisting of interiors, style and inspiration.
What will this blog contain?
This blog will primarily be a creative outlet for interiors and about our house, but on occasion there will be a nod to art, textiles and creative DIY projects that I take on. It might not be to everyones taste and thats ok! This my chance to finally bring something that I have been thinking about doing for a long time. I get asked all the time about items in my house and for ideas of how to help people so hopefully the content in this blog may be of some use to people which puts a smile on my face.
I have a passion for photography and like an excuse to take a photo
Why now?
Why not? For some reason I have allowed myself to lose confidence in my ability to be creative and to design things. However, when I just let loose and get in to it, good things begin to happen. I am not getting any younger and I don’t want to be one of these people who continue to say they want to do something but they never get round to doing it. My mum died 3 years ago now and I used my inheritance to build our new home for our family. If anything what is has taught me is that life is too short and you shouldn’t waste it, so as far as I am concerned I have wasted so much time thinking and not enough doing and i have had enough! I am doing this to get my creativity flowing again.
It will encourage my creativity.
Planning content for the blog will encourage my creativity which at times I feel has been lost a little bit since having kids. It is an opportunity to have something for myself and to use this as opportunity to have a little bit of fun with interiors.
Getting out of my comfort zone.
I have proven to myself over the years that when I do take a leap of faith it does pay off. I feel more satisfied for doing it and I get a buzz out of the process. One of the most recent examples of this was when I completed a mural for a baby nursery. The client didn’t know anyone who would be able to do it, so I said if she would let me, I would take on the challenge and it paid off! Will this blog provide me with the same feeling? Hopefully.
I love a bit of sewing and making soft furnishings.
When I take on a project out of my comfort zone and I complete it, I get a buzz.
Will people actually read this blog?
I am not sure if anyone will even take any notice of this blog. I am trying not to let that bother me to much as I just want to prove to myself that I can do it and create some interesting posts about interiors. I have been told by so many people to start a blog and I thought sod it! Let see what happens eh!
Time will tell.
Please come back now and again and let me know what you think or if there is something in particular that you would like me to share with you guys!
